About
I am a geek, I freely admit it. I have a passion for all things technical, digital and innovative. Additionally, I really enjoy helping people, solving mysteries and most of all… writing about all of the above.
My professional background is in graphic arts / prepress, but I have also been heavily involved in music, multi-media and all technical aspects of the arts for years now. My life wanders along both parallel and diverging paths.

Howdy, I’m Patrick,
Zac and I stumbled across each other in China over a meal of Gong Bao Ji Ding (Kung Pao Chicken) and Tsingtao beer. I follow the Top Gun view of high tech, “I feel the need, the need for speed.” The intersection of business and new high tech is an interesting area to me because it leads to new ideas and new products becoming reality in our lives.
My professional background is in new product development and marketing of Intel semiconductors, PCs, digital music appliances / Internet streaming services, and graphic arts / prepress. What the heck has all of this in common? I’ve always been involved at the developing the bleeding edge of tech to change the way the world works and plays.
Additionally, I started out life as a Berry Livingston (Ernie Douglas) look alike from My Three Sons.

Biography: I’ve been experimenting with mobile devices since 1992 when I bought a Sharp PC-3100. In more recent years I’ve had devices running Palm OS, Windows Mobile, Linux, Android and iPhone OS. I’m a mechanical engineer working for a software company, and a software hacker on the side (mostly Python, and Android). I also like playing with GPS, riding my bicycle every day of the year, and flying unpowered aircraft when I can – so long as it doesn’t interfere with my skiing! I’ve known your host Zac for over 10 years, but please don’t hold that against me.

Zac: These articles are great. Both the teachers I work with have iphones and are crazy about them. I will share your article regarding apps. They should enjoy it. On a personal note, I saw some great pics of the boys — Rocky and Ben. There are some pics of Ben I think are you at first. Looks like all are doing fine. Say “hi” to them for me. Take care. I will continue to follow your blogs and will write again.Peace.

Tim,
Great to hear from you. I’ll ping you offline…
Thanks for your blog and its great reading them after a sitting spell. I am also in prepress and graphic arts and it seems we are alot alike.
Are you still involved in software development?
Chris
Hi Chris,
Glad you like the blog… yes, I still am involved in software development as a specification writer, tester and technical writer. Keeps me busy! send me a link to your blog…

Hey, Freak, Great article about Windows 7. I was afraid that you were going to end off by saying you were switching over, relieved to see that you’re still a MacFreak. Howz it hangin’ out there? I’m still in school (very studiously avoiding studying by reading your blog right at this moment) but will be finished in May. Then…??? Employment + paycheques = debt repayment, for awhile at least. I miss skiing with you Buddy…
Ciao & hugs….

Hey Chris, great to hear from you. Yah, don’t worry about me switching teams… for basic everyday work and life-related computing it would take a lot more than an improved windows experience to get me to switch! Just sayin’, if you have to work in windowsworld… this is the one to work in! I’ll ping you offline and we can catch up.

ok, ok, i admit it… i have no friends! that is, unless, you want to write for Softcircus? That would qualify you… let me know, I’ll make you an account.
It’s just been too long, Zac. I don’t know where to begin to try and catch-up! You’re in Calgary now and I’m still in SF. Did you marry your Chinese sweetheart? Well, now that I know about “softcircus” and we’re twitter connected … some fun continues. xo, v
