Quark Xpress 9 Announced Today
The latest incarnation of desktop publishing stalwart Quark Xpress 9 was announced this morning with a pre-recorded web video event. Things have been quiet in the DTP world recently as print volumes in the Western Hemisphere continue to erode at the hands of digital devices such as mobile phones and tablet computers. Recognizing that content is their customer’s real product, Quark has wisely chosen to focus on enabling Xpress 9 users to publish to multiple formats in addition to print. You can read all about the new features in Xpress 9 here, but suffice it to say that their top three highlights of the new version are…
- App Studio for Quark Xpress – Publishers can build their own iPad Apps to publish digital editions of their magazines, complete with rich media embedded within Quark Xpress.
- Design for BLIO eReader – Output rich media and interactive eBooks for the new BLIO eReader application, currently only available on the WinTel platform… coming soon to iOS/Android and to the Mac via the Silverlight application framework.
- Export to EPUB – standard eBook output.
I’ve just written a magazine article about Quark’s ePublishing strategy for the upcoming issue of Print Action magazine. I’ll post the PDF here when the magazines are in the mail. In the meantime, I’ll be blogging bits and pieces about the evolution of this new publishing environment.
